Facing Forty: 40 Greatest Hits (and A Few Misses) of a Life in Progress, Lived out Loud

Submitted by on October 10, 2011 - 11:21 am

I’d like to tell you that the Rubik’s Cube turns 40 this year. I’d like to tell you that Mr. and Ms. Pac-Man celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this year. I’d like to tell you that Drew Barrymore, Free to Be You & Me, Star Wars and I were all born in the same year, all turning 40 in 2011.

But it’s just not true. Those toys, video game icons, and pop-culture references are from my youth, but the conscious years, not the zygote years.

Having said that, there ARE some cool things/people turning 40 this year, right along with me. John Lennon’s song Imagine. Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry. And my girl Mary J Blige hits the big 4-0 right alongside me this year.

In honor of facing 40 on Sunday, I decided to stroll down memory lane and celebrate 40 of my Greatest Hits (and a few Misses) of my life in progress, lived out loud…

1. At age 6, scoring a Barbie dream house (the one with the pink elevator) for Christmas, one of many fave memories from a childhood filled with Barbie

2. At age 7, watching the movie Grease in the theater with my mom, and as the end credits rolled, hearing her say, “In real life, he’d change for her.”

3. Following my globetrotting parents around the world, living on three continents (North America, Australia, Asia) before I was 10

4. Begging my parents for a ventriloquist doll named Lester for Christmas, unwrapping him with glee, and insisting on entertaining my parents friends (and bosses!) with a comedy set that always started with, “OK, Joke Time!”

5. At age 12, mistaking a moat for a puddle during a Sri Lankan downpour (stepping in, plummeting, and resurfacing to the shock and awe of onlookers)

6. At 15, falling in love with Rebel, a creative, fun loving, new waver who had a girlfriend, told me he loved me more, and set the scene for a decade of me chasing emotionally unavailable men who didn’t love me back

7. After high school graduation, getting schooled on how to drink beer (and getting drunk for the first time) with Bad Influence, my high school buddy (His tip: Always drink a root beer first so your burps taste good)

8. Binge drinking root beer (and then some) for four years straight at college

9. At 22, falling in love and moving in with Trouble, a.k.a. a 37-year-old bodybuilder with a checkered past

10. At 23, barely escaping Trouble with my life

11. At 29, landing my dream job where I got to write about Barbie all day long

12. After a safe and predictable three-year relationship with Mr. Vanilla, loudly and proudly proclaiming while watching the movie The Tao of Steve, “I want to meet someone who’ll ROCK my world!”

13. Enter Mr. Rocky Road, a.k.a. the first man to make me feel seen, heard, loved, and adored (when we weren’t embroiled in a codependent nightmare, that is!)

14. Watching all my friends get married, have babies, and settle down, desperately wishing Mr. Rocky Road could get his act together and morph into The One

15. Breaking up, making up, & breaking down for six months straight during my Big Breakup with Mr. Rocky Road

16. Running off to Greece following my Big Breakup: Sunbathing topless for the first time, hiking a 17 km gorge with a gorgeous Air Force officer, and coming home alive, hell bent on proving to my dad I wasn’t foolish, crazy, or wrong for going alone

17. After 4 1/2 years, breaking up the Barbie, quitting my job, & not having a plan

18. Launching my first website BreakupChronicles.com one week after leaving my job

19. Renting out my condo, putting my stuff in storage, and escaping to the Montana wilderness for a month to “figure things out”

20. Scoring my first piece of press, a front-page feature in my hometown newspaper (Miss: Hiding all day when the paper hit stands, afraid to own it and celebrate it)

21. Coming back to LA, sleeping on a blowup mattress on my best friend’s living room floor, and feeling happy for the first time in a long time

22. Falling in love with myself, my life, and becoming a man magnet

23. Meeting my future husband at a bar, thinking he was 20-years-old and gay, bonding over a shared love of David Sedaris and Pink Martini

24. Recognizing on date #2 that my future husband could be The One (he’d just finished telling me, “I’m too nice for the naughty girls and too naughty for the nice ones.” Disco!

25. Telling my future husband on that same second date that I never wanted to get married or have babies

26. Getting my first book deal

27. Becoming a best-selling author (Miss: Coming home from my book tour and realizing I was a broke best-selling author)

28. Getting the call from my publicist that the Today Show wanted me on to talk about my first book IF: I came to New York the following week and shot B roll of one woman getting a post-breakup makeover and another woman having a Movin’ On party. The catch: I had to set it all up (Not having been in New York since college and not knowing anyone in the city, I said yes, and within a week had everything I needed for 2 kick ass segments!)

29. Realizing I really can do anything I set my mind to (Priceless, Mastercard!)

30. After years of being an excessive Sex and the City fan, spending one hour chatting with Candace Bushnell about the REAL Mr. Big

31. Handing my future husband my grandmother’s wedding ring and saying, “Give it back when you’re ready.” (Miss: Getting mad that it took him another six months to propose!)

32. Three years ago, donning a red gown, walking down the aisle to Etta James’ “At Last”, & promising to love my husband forever (The EASIEST thing I’ll ever do)

33. Spending a month in Paris on our honeymoon, watching Obama get elected, and celebrating hope around the world

34. Inspiring my sister to believe in love for the first time in 10 years and find HER Mr. Right

35. Writing 4 more books while building a profitable consulting business I LOVE

36. Loving (and eventually losing) my first pet, my cat Maya

37. Crying when I found out that my beautiful, smart, 18-year-old sister-in-law was pregnant

38. Being my 19-year-old sister-in-law’s birth coach, eventually helping her through a C-section after 19 frustrating hours of labor, and being the first family member to hold my niece

39. Leaving the hospital, realizing for the first time that my niece wasn’t coming home with ME

40. Having made peace with my childhood, being compassionate for my 20 something wild child, and appreciating the wisdom and experience of my 30s, looking forward to my 40s with a mix of curiosity, possibility, and excitement

What about you? What are some of YOUR hits and misses from YOUR life in progress?

Be honest. When was the last time you had a frank conversation about pleasure?

You heard me. Pleasure!

And yes, orgasms are part of it. But not all of it. Pleasure encompasses every area of our lives. And it affects how we feel about every area of our lives. Do you have pleasure in your relationships? In your business? With yourself?

Do you know what pleases you — in love, life, and business? Are you able to communicate it to yourself and your partner?

Have you mastered the energy of pleasure?

If you added just an ounce (or a ton) more pleasure in your daily life, how would that change the way you feel about your love, life, and business?

If these questions have stumped you, don’t worry. It’s not too late to change your relationship with pleasure.

Today on Woohoo Radio, I’ve got 2 AMAZING guests who revolutionizing the way we approach pleasure, energy, and communication in our relationships.

Meet Bonnie Stern
When Bonnie Stern turned 41, and was in the prime of her life, she had a life-changing experience stemming from early peri- menopause. She had a successful business as a business manager/accountant for over 18 years, was attractive, and supposed to be at her peak until her body had other plans. Her mind was at its sexual prime while her body shut down. As she reached out to woman for answers, she quickly realized that whether women were healthy or not, they were struggling sexually with their bodies and needed help for a variety of reasons.

The drastic physical change her own body, sent Bonnie on a quest to find something that didn’t exist; a healthy product to sooth the dryness and pain and help her feel sexually empowered again. Not seeing what she needed on the market, Bonnie found a team of experts to help her create “Sex Butter” and “Amida Oil” products to help women feel and heal their bodies while manifesting their dreams. Cancer patients, abuse victims, and women with all types of other intimate issues are using Sex Butter, with positive results.

On today’s show, Bonnie’s spilling HER secrets for rediscovering her self, her body, and PLEASURE.

Meet Marni Battista

Marni is the founder and CEO of Dating With Dignity, a company that’s dedicated to helping women improve their self-love and respect so that attaining a perfect partnership is easier and more dignified. Why Feminine Leadership Needs a Kick in the Ass

Submitted by on September 27, 2011 - 7:27 pm

Can I be real with you? I hope so. That’s the difference between being Woohoo and being Woo-woo. When you’re speaking the Woohoo, you can say what you mean, mean what you say, and call it like you see it. (I invite you to do the same!)

I woke up this week, took a look around, and realized something about the Feminine Leadership model running rampant in the world around me.

I’m not proud to say it, but if I’m totally honest, Feminine Leadership seems to be lacking in a few key areas, namely…

  1. Femininity
  2. Leadership

Don’t get me wrong. I see a lot of smart, savvy, successful women leaders in the world, but…

Are they feminine?

And…

Are they leading from a feminine place?

When I sit back and watch what’s happening in the world, I feel like the feminine leaders out in the world are leading from a One-Size-Fits-All approach to love, life, and business.

Click here to listen to the podcast

Have you noticed a “There’s only room for 1 top dog” kind of energy swirling around some of these women?

From where I sit, many of today’s feminine leaders seem to operate from a masculine, big balled, power-hungry position that leaves me asking the question, “What’s feminine about THAT?”

While I’m no expert on Feminine Leadership, I do believe there’s a better way to lead a movement. At Woohoo, Inc, I’m committed to:

  1. NOT leading from a masculine energy
  2. NOT following a 1-size-fits-all approach to love, life, and business
  3. Freely sharing all of the amazing feminine leaders in my world AND the male ones who celebrate their feminine AND masculine energies

Will you join my mission?

Are you ready to join a passionate, purpose-filled, AND profitable community of like-minded men and women who all believe there’s a better way to live, love, and run a business?

Today on Woohoo Radio, I’ve got 2 AMAZING feminine leaders who I think are doing it right. (Keep reading to find out who’s on today’s show!)

At Woohoo Weekend October 15-16 in Los Angeles, I’ve invited 14 of my favorite male AND female speakers to share their stories, offer cutting edge content, and model behavior that feels authentic, inspired, and original.

These leaders are successful, thoughtful, and have created relationships, lives, and businesses that are genuinely aligned with their personal and professional values and vision. They’ve bucked the system, tossed aside the 1-size-fits-all approach to love, life, and business, and are blazing a trail THEIR way on THEIR terms. I invite you to join us in celebrating YOUR Woohoo Way of Love, Life, Business, & The Pursuit of Happiness – without losing yourself – on October 15-16 at the Westin LAX for Woohoo Weekend.

If you’re ready to STOP following a model of success that doesn’t work for you and instead start blazing your own trail, I invite you to join me and the like-minded individuals stepping out of the shadows and into their spotlight at Woohoo Weekend. Here’s the link to get your tickets TODAY:

Woohoo Radio Radar

This week on Woohoo Radio, I’m honored to be joined by 2 very special guests, 2 incredibly feminine, incredibly real, and luscious leaders in their own right.

Allow me to introduce them…

Meet Christina Dunbar, The Power Goddess

We’ve all seen her. That woman who seems to manifest with ease, with grace. She walks into a room and people notice her. Opportunities come to her.

What does she have?

It’s not her looks. It’s not the perfect body shape, or the right background.

It’s called… confidence.

Oh yeah baby, that’s sexy. Women love it. Men eat it up. And the Universe?

The Universe will follow your every command when you are in a place of confidence.

Remember, the law of creation is about energy. Confidence and certainty is about tapping into an energy that creates.

It’s about honoring the very things that make you unique and different and LOVING them. It’s about listening to your Inner Spirit, the call of your Soul, and KNOWING you are worth “it.” It’s about following your intuition, taking action with passion, and the power of knowing.

That’s your Sexy-Cha-Cha Factor. It’s one of the KEY pieces to creating your destiny. Christina Dunbar has it. And she’s going to share with us how to STOP being a Good Girl so you can START living life on your terms as an authentic feminine leader.

Meet Darcy Skye, A Spiritual Leader for Leaders

As a leader, you’re out in the world. You’re leading your tribe. You’re making things happen.

You’re a leader. But who’s leading YOU?

Who’s giving you guidance, energy, healing, coaching, and support?

Who’s replenishing your spirit, soothing your soul, inspiring your brilliance?

Spiritual Leadership is ESSENTIAL to Feminine Leadership.

As a feminine leader, how would YOUR leadership transform if you had the support YOU needed?

I’m honored to have Darcy Skye join us for Woohoo Radio. Darcy’s background and story are so brilliant! She’s a former Biologist turned Energy Medicine Practitioner, Reiki Master, and Spiritual Leader for Leaders.

For 30 years, Darcy only believed what she could see with her own two eyes until she woke up to find her self-made boxes closing in around her.  She learned that by opening to the unseen energetic world, she could feel the peace, passion and fulfillment she’d only dreamed of.  She now helps business leaders and creative professionals utilize this unseen world in order to uplevel to their full creative potential and become the leaders they’re born to be.

Got questions about how to step into YOUR voice, value, and Feminine Leadership? Post your comments or call into the show LIVE Wednesday at 2pm Pacific. Our producers will happily answer your call: 877-864-4869.

90 Days to More Clamor, Clients, Cash

Submitted by on September 15, 2011 - 2:04 pm

Summer’s over and it’s back to business. While August is typically a month where cash flow, clients, and clamor slow down, September is the perfect month to hit the ground running with a juicy clamor campaign. Creating conscious clamor will help you stand out from your competition, magnetize your fans, clients, and customers with your rock star social brand and messaging, create and achieve your cash-generating goals for the rest of the year.

Now that September is here, do you have a plan to get the kind of results you desire and deserve in 2011?

Typically, it takes a good 90 days to refine, master, implement, and share all the pieces of your brand and business to the point where you can create consistent clamor, clients, and cash.

Looking at the calendar, you’ve got just over 100 days left in 2011 to uplevel your business. Which is why NOW is the perfect time to refine and rock your social brand, create some juicy clamor, and start generating the cash you desire and deserve in your business because…

1. People are back from their slow summers.

2. Clients are ITCHING to get better results in their lives and business before the end of the year.

3. And YOU have a unique gift that can help them achieve their desired results.

You just need to get out of your own way and step into your spotlight – starting TODAY!

Believe it or not, there’s still time for your business uplevel this year.

Start by asking yourself this question…

Where do I want to be in 90 days in my business?

Next, ask yourself this…

What am I going to do this month that will forever change what’s happening in my business?

What can you do starting today that will generate more clamor, clients, and cash for your business this year?

And how will you get out of the way so that you can make a significant difference — in your own life and business as well as in the lives and businesses of your clients?

Here are 4 simple steps you can take today that will forever change what’s happening in your business…

1. Set a Reasonable & Audacious Goal
Be honest. Did you set an audacious goal for yourself and your business in January, only to get the same mediocre results so far in 2011? If so, it’s okay. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Starting today, set another audacious goal. Make sure it’s reasonable (making a million and getting your OWN show on Oprah’s network may be a bit of a long shot), but also make sure you’re pushing yourself.

Is your audacious goal:
1. Financial (Get specific – how much, by when, and with what products, services, offerings?)

2. List building (How many names do you want to add to your list and by when?)

3. Adding a certain number of new clients/making a certain number of sales (How many new clients do you realistically have time for and are you comfortable raising your rates?)

2. Know Your Brand
You are NOT your competition. You are uniquely you. Revisit your story, your offerings, your messaging, and your branding to see what’s falling flat and how you can stand out from your competition simply by being YOU. Pay attention to your branding energetics, how you make people feel, and what’s resonating with your fans. Do MORE of what resonates (gets lots of likes, comments, shares) and less of what falls flat (crickets belong in your yard, not on your Facebook wall).

3. Commit to Doing What It Takes To Achieve It
So you’re on Facebook all day. It’s gotten you to a certain level of success. But to get to the next level, what do you need to do differently? Do you need to:

1. Be more consistent (in your blogging, tweeting, newsletters, videos, etc)

2. Put an offer out there (Asking for the business is the best way to GET the business, according to Julie Steelman!)

3. Enroll more people in your mission and your movement and engage them in consistent conversation (Having an effective social media engagement strategy will be KEY to your success!)

4. Start Creating Clamor Today
What is CLAMOR and why do you and your business want/need it? In the nutshell, CLAMOR is my signature 6 step process for standing out from your competition, engaging your audience in authentic conversation, promoting your services without being GROSS, and transforming a fan into a paying client in record time. Trust me, when you master CLAMOR, you will have a juicy, profitable, amazing business you LOVE!

Check out my FREE video series on how to create conscious clamor, starting HERE.

5. Broadcast BIGGER
How are you broadcasting your message to the world? And are you broadcasting to a wide audience or a narrow audience? If you’ve got 900 Facebook friends and 300 Twitter followers and an email list of 500 names, you need to grow those lists exponentially before you can live in the Clamor Zone. But it’s a good start. Your next step is to start broadcasting BIGGER and with more frequency.

Now’s the time to revisit your content plan and ask yourself:

How often am I…

- Posting on Facebook

- Tweeting

- Posting/sharing a video

- Blogging

- Sending out an email newsletter

- Syndicating my content

- Offering FREE calls

- Joining forces with affiliates

- Making an irresistible offer

All of these pieces fit into the puzzle that is Living in the Clamor Zone™. Do you have a content schedule that allows you time on a weekly basis to create all of these pieces and them share them consistently? And if not, how can you carve out time in your schedule to create such a schedule? I set aside 1 day a week to creating all of my weekly content. The rest of my week is dedicated to my clients. By making my business just as much of a priority as my clients’ businesses, I am able to Live in the Clamor Zone while teaching them how to as well.

As you can see, now is the PEFECT time to implement these 4 steps into your weekly routine so you can create more clamor, clients, and cash this fall. I’d love to hear what you’re cooking up this month. Post your comments here or email me!

Is Your Business Missing Its Sacha Fierce?

Submitted by on May 10, 2011 - 1:48 pm

Oprah. Martha Stewart. Jessica Simpson. Kim Kardashian. These are just a handful of the celebrity names who have rock star social brands we know and love. From clothes to shoes to linens to magazines to fragrances, these ladies know the power of lending their name to a product, service, and brand.

However, there is another name that we don’t necessarily associate with rock star social branding that deserves mentioning.

Beyonce.

Sure, she has a clothing line House of Dereon with her mother Tina. But that’s not why she’s worth mentioning. The truth is, Beyonce has the secret you may be missing your business that will forever change was happening in your business.

That secret?

Sacha Fierce.

Who IS Sacha Fierce?

She’s none other than Beyoncé’s alter ego that Beyonce channels whenever she takes to the stage. Believe it or not, Beyoncé the woman is shy, soft-spoken, modest. And in order to rock her curves, strut her stuff, and shake that booty like she does so flawlessly in music videos like Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), Beyonce needed an alter ego to work it and own it.

Click the play button to watch Beyonce channel Sacha Fierce in this rockin’ music video:

Do you need to create your very own Sacha Fierce in your business in order to work it and own it?

The truth is, as women in business, sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to be bigger, bolder, and more audacious than we may normally be in our personal lives. Instead of apologizing for having a HUGE vision for ourselves and our business, maybe creating our very own Sacha Fierce is what we need to do to catapult ourselves to the next level of success.

I talk to a lot of women business owners who are smart, savvy, successful, and stunningly beautiful. And yet they sometimes hesitate to OWN their power and visibility.  Until today, that is. My mission at Woohoo, Inc. is to give every woman in business for herself permission to own, embody, and share her Brilliance with the world in big and bold ways. If you’re one of these women, let’s take a look at my 5 step process for owning and embodying your Brilliance in bigger, bolder ways, starting right now:

1. Identify The Payoffs For Staying Small

Is it easier to stay small and undiscovered? Sure. But that’s not what you’re ultimately here to do. Something amazing was downloaded into you and it’s up to you to take it out to the world. Starting today, ask yourself who really gets hurt if you own the full potential of your business, brand, and mission. Who suffers if you become as successful as you desire and deserve? Is there some unspoken agreement about the level of success you are allowed to attain between yourself and your partner, your parents, your siblings, your friends? And if so, could today be the day to rewrite it?

2. What Stories Keep You Stuck?

Who told you it wasn’t okay to be loud, audacious, gutsy, and going for? Where did you get the message that standing out was bad, or that you had to struggle or bargain for success? If somewhere along your personal journey that has led you to where you are right now in your business you picked up or created a story that says, “I don’t have what it takes to be successful,” I’ve got news for you. Those stories will keep you stuck. Those stories will make you right. And those stories will keep you and your business in breaking even or being broke mode. Today, I invite you to break free of your story and your need to be right and instead choose to be happy and successful. It is simply a choice to rewrite your story and act accordingly.

3. It’s Not About YOU

What if I told you that the real reason you’re in business has nothing to do with you? What if I told you that you were simply the best messenger the universe could find to broadcast a particular mission to the masses? Would you find that reading? I know I did. The truth is, the Woohoo! isn’t about me. I’m simply the best messenger the universe could find to deliver this message to the masses. If I stayed small, undiscovered, and stuck, how many other people would miss out on connecting to their Woohoo Within™ and broadcasting it widely in the world? Hundreds if not thousands if not hundreds of thousands! What a shame. The minute I check my ego at the door, and simply fine tune my broadcasting channel, the minute my mission begins to truly magnetize the masses. The same is true for you. Can you check your ego at the door today and simply be the channel?

4. Fake it Til You Make It

This is where Sacha Fierce comes in. Once you awaken your Woohoo and discover that you are simply the best broadcast tool the universe could find for your particular mission, it’s up to you to BE the channel. If you’re shy, unassuming, modest, etc., you may need to craft your very own public persona to help you rock your particular social brand. Beyonce has Sacha Fierce. When I was just getting started with my breakup brand, I trademarked the moniker The Relationship Journalist™. While I may not have felt comfortable promoting my brand and business as Lisa, I had no trouble promoting in broadcasting as The Relationship Journalist™. Do what you need to do to own and embody your brilliance brand and business.

5. Share FREELY

It’s not enough to broadcast your brilliance to a select few people. That only keeps you playing small. The key to your success lies in broadcasting to a wide audience and sharing your brilliance freely. That means stepping into your role as your own particular Sacha Fierce every time you leave the house. From your clothes to your hair to your handbag to your elevator pitch to your eye contact and hand shake, embody your brilliance in everything you put out in the world. Online, that includes your videos, social media, your blogs, and your newsletter. Work it and own it and share it freely at all times!

Are you beginning to see how channeling your very own Sacha Fierce can help you OWN and EMBODY your Brilliant rock star social brand? Share your thoughts by posting a comment here or by sharing this article on social media.

Ever wish you could push the RESET button on your life?

Submitted by on January 17, 2011 - 8:47 am

Be honest. Ever wish you could push the RESET button on your life?

Do you feel stuck, bogged down, burdened, or just plain disappointed in what’s happening for you so far in 2011?

Does the space between where you are right now and where you want to be feel ENORMOUS and insurmountable?

I get it.

I’ve been there.

Seven years ago, I desperately wanted to push the RESET button on MY life.

My once dream job had turned into a nightmare, due to a new, demanding, and soul-crushing boss.

My love life was in shambles, and I found myself once again picking up the pieces of my broken heart, devastated that I just couldn’t make it work with my ex.

After buying my condo, I realized I had moved into married-with-children suburbia and felt isolated, alone, and like a total failure at life and love.

My body began betraying me, bringing on physical pain to match my emotional anguish.

Honestly, very little about my life was working. And I kept thinking, “If only there was a RESET button I could push to start over!”

Unfortunately, there wasn’t. And I stayed stuck for many months.

I kept taking my boss’ crap.

I kept sleeping with my ex.

I kept feeling isolated and alone in my condo.

And I never did find my RESET button.

Fortunately, you don’t have to suffer this same fate.

You don’t have to agonize over any area of your life alone.

If you made a resolution on new year’s eve to change any of these areas of your life:

- Financial/Career

- Love/Relationships

- Body image/Personal style

You’re in luck. Help is here.

But first, let’s be clear. You don’t need to make any more resolutions.

You need to start your very own REVOLUTION!

The truth is, change sucks. Nobody likes it. And nobody makes change until it becomes more painful to stay where they are.

Let me repeat that. Nobody makes change until the idea of staying stuck becomes more painful than the idea of letting go and moving on.

But here’s the thing. Only YOU can decide when enough will be enough.

Do you want to spend another 6 months feeling stuck in some area of your life like:

- Feeling lost and alone when it comes to your love life

- Feeling unhealthy and unhappy in your body

- Feeling frustrated that you’re not getting further ahead in your career or life

Or do you want to have your Revolutionary Reset this month, get the tools you need to make a different choice, and change what’s happening in your life in record time?

Only you know for sure how much longer you want to feel stuck or in pain.

But I hope you choose to press YOUR reset button SOON and start loving your life again.

If you’re ready for 2011 to be the year you plow through old barriers, blocks, and beliefs so you can welcome a healthier, happier, more hopeful life, then be sure to join me at the Revolutionary Reset event at the Fairmont Miramar hotel overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, CA on Saturday, January 29.

Pics & Reflections from Woohoo Women of the Year

Submitted by on December 8, 2010 - 1:33 pm

Last week, I had the honor of throwing the first annual Woohoo Women of the Year event in Hollywood. It was a fab and fun evening dedicated to celebrating each and every woman in attendance while also giving back to women who may be less fortunate.

From the moment each Woohoo Woman entered the event, they were welcomed and celebrated by photographer Moriah Diamond who captured each woman strutting her stuff on the raspberry carpet.

From there, each Woohoo Woman was treated to cocktails, delicious food, and amazing music, all tailored to celebrating the women there. As a personal touch, I requested that Woohoo Men serve the food and pour the drinks so each and every woman there could experience the feeling of being cared for and pampered by a man.

When it came time to make a speech, I invited Woohoo man Tiamo De Vettori to perform his incredible song “The God in You” for the Woohoo Women. They LOVED it!

AND, I shared some fabulous fun facts about each woman in the room that let us all know these beautiful ladies as more than just what’s on their business cards. We got to know the true Woohoo Within each woman. That was soo fun!

As the hostess, I enjoyed meeting and mingling with each and every Woohoo Woman who attended. And when each woman left, she took home a fantastic gift bag filled with some of my favorite things including Klean Spa sugar scrubs, personalized Woohoo! M&Ms, Om Aroma caviar eye cream, and so much more.

As I mentioned in a previous email, 50% of the ticket price went into the Woohoo Women global lending fund on kiva.org.

I’m thrilled to report that we just dispersed $1850 in loans to Woohoo Women around the world, including women in business in Costa Rica, Congo, Cameroon, Guatemala, the Phillipines, Pakistan, Armenia, Peru, Ecuador, Azerbaijan, and the Dominican Republic.

Honestly, this is one of my proudest accomplishments this year. In a year of economic uncertainty, I’m proud that my business is thriving, thanks in part to you, my clients, friends, fans, and colleagues.

In a year when so many people lost their jobs, their homes, their loved ones, I have been blessed with many Woohoo!s. I created Woohoo Women of the Year to pay this good fortune forward, and in hopes of inspiring the women around me to celebrate all of their blessings AND discover the joy of being generous.

If you find yourself struggling today, I hope this email inspires you to give thanks for the great and small Woohoo!s in YOUR life. Maybe you didn’t accomplish the big ticket items on your Wish List this year. But I’m guessing you made a difference in the lives of others. And I’m guessing you took risks, made strides, and became a better woman because of 2010.

In that spirit, I invite you to join the Woohoo Women Lending Fund on kiva.org and see how the funds we raised are going to good use in the coming years:

It’s exciting to think that by throwing a fabulous party, we now have the opportunity to help women in business around the world for YEARS to come without spending another dime. Of course, I’ll continue investing in kiva and I hope you will, too.

Stay tuned! I’ve got some exciting announcements coming later this month.

Woohoo Weekend Recap

Submitted by on May 26, 2010 - 9:29 am

On May 15-16, 20 women gathered for 2 days in Los Angeles at my Woohoo Weekend.

On Day #1, we connected to our Woohoo Within™, tuning in to who we are, what keeps us playing small, and how to break free from self sabotage and create an action plan for implementing Woohoo! moving forward. In addition to hands on coaching and mentoring with me, special guest Sybil Henry shared how to be hip, healthy, and sexy after 40.

On Day #2, private cars took us to the beach where Chef Louie served us quiche and mimosas. We then spent a few hours connecting to and celebrating our Woohoo Women with Christina Morassi. In the afternoon, we talked about how to stay connected to our Woohoo Women in the real world. Hands on coaching and celebrating took place.

Here are just some of the beautiful photos from the weekend.

Stay tuned – the next Woohoo Weekend date will be announced SOON!

Join me for Woohoo! Wednesdays in April!

Submitted by on April 7, 2010 - 11:07 am

In the last few months, I’ve been busy working behind the scenes on something pretty exciting.

See, in addition to all of the amazing email I get about love and relationships, I also get tons of emails, phone calls, and requests on social media to share how I’ve built my company Woohoo, Inc. into such a successful business.

The truth is, I love my business. I’m passionate about being an entrepreneur as well as a coach and author. And it’s my pleasure to share how I’ve built my beautiful business.

I used to answer these questions individually. Now, that’s taking up a lot of my time. So starting next Wednesday, April 14, I’m giving a FREE three call series I’m calling Woohoo! Wednesdays: Love, Business, and Cha-Ching!

On these three FREE calls, I’ll reveal:

- How your love life affects your professional persona

- How to get published in today’s changing book business

- How to master your message, generate golden opportunities, and create consistent cash from your expertise

While this may feel like a bit of a departure from my more traditional relationship coaching, many of you have been asking for this information. My clients consistently ask me to coach them in business as well as love. My colleagues have been asking for this, too. And so have my friends.

I’ve even gotten approached by people I respect to coach them on how to build a business like mine. And I gotta say, I’m having a BLAST collaborating with other entrepreneurs on their businesses!

Like I said before, this has all been going on behind the scenes for months. And now it’s time to share it with you.

So, if you’re interested in joining me for my FREE three-part Woohoo! Wednesdays call series, please register here:

http://lisasteadman.com/love-business-and-cha-ching/

I can’t wait to start sharing this information with you next week!

Got questions about what I’ll be covering on Woohoo! Wednesdays? E-mail ask@LisaSteadman.com. I’ll answer some of your questions live on the calls.

And, let me be clear. I’m not abandoning my relationship coaching practice. It’s still an extraordinarily amazing part of my business. And I love, love, love my clients and fans! Whether you’ve worked with me personally, bought one or more of my books, or just been a loyal fan, please know that I appreciate you tremendously.

Woo-to-the-hoo! ;)

Now you know the beginnings of what’s been happening behind the scenes at Woohoo, Inc. I’ll be revealing more exciting details next week. And I can’t wait to share Woohoo! Wednesdays with you in April!

Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans

Submitted by on October 10, 2009 - 11:00 pm

Friday was my 38th birthday. I woke up in Malibu, went for a walk on the beach, enjoyed one last breakfast out on my private patio, gave thanks for all the blessings in my life, and packed my car for the trek home.

Enjoying my private beach patio

Truthfully, I wasn’t quite ready to leave, but The Hubs was flying home from being away on business all week, and I was excited to get home, tidy up the place, and welcome him with open arms.

Life had other plans.

As I pulled my car out of the hotel parking lot and onto Pacific Coast Highway, it sputtered. I revved the gas. My usually trusty car responded with silence. Right in the middle of PCH, my car died.

Several four letter words exited my mouth.

I looked in my rearview mirror at the line of cars behind me, and wondered if we’d both make it to safety unscathed.

Then my car started again. And the check engine light turned on. I pulled into the right lane, drove for a few feet, sputtering and spewing, and realized we would never make the hour long trek home.

I pulled off PCH in time for my car to die completely. I then whipped out my trusty AAA card, called for assistance, and asked that the tow truck driver tow me across town to Silverlake where my mechanic could diagnose the problem.

Two hours later, my tow truck driver arrived. In the interim, I had gone from mildly amused to slightly frustrated to downright pissed off. I’d just spent 4 relaxing days on the beach and this was my birthday present? Argh!

Upon arrival, the tow truck driver took his sweet time getting out of his vehicle. I think we had a glare down in the meantime. While two hours ago, I could’ve gotten across town in an hour, at three o’clock on a Friday afternoon, it would take two hours to get home. And that wasn’t even factoring in talking to my mechanic about the problem. To make matters worse, the tow truck driver tried to talk me out of towing me across town.

Go somewhere local, he said. I’m just trying to save you money.

I wasn’t born yesterday. This guy wasn’t trying to save me money. He clearly didn’t want to make the trek across town. But my will was stronger than his. I looked him in the eye and said, smiling, You’re taking me to Silverlake. Let’s go.

As we buckled in and started on our journey, my tow truck driver started telling me his life story. At first . I didn’t care how much he made in overtime to do jobs like the one he was doing for me. I also didn’t care that he was perpetually overdrawn in his bank account and didn’t seem to know how to manage his money. I wanted to turn to him and say Buddy, it’s my birthday and my car died and my Malibu Zen is fading fast. And I’m stuck in a car with you for the next hour and a half. If one of us has problems right now, it’s definitely me!

But something told me to keep my mouth shut. And so I started asking more questions and really listening to what he was saying.

As it turns out, my tow truck driver had lost his wife six months earlier. He didn’t say what she died of, but he was pretty broken up about it. And his 14-year-old daughter was, too. She was living in Vegas with her grandparents because he was too much of a mess to help her right now. And his new girlfriend was feeling like she had a pretty big shoes to fill, which was causing arguments at home.

In the past, I would have spent the entire drive judging my tow truck driver. But not that day. Instead, a little voice inside (most likely the same voice that had told me, Go to Malibu a week earlier) said Act with compassion. And so I did.

During our journey across town, I realized that it really didn’t matter if my car was being towed. It also didn’t matter that I had to wait two hours for a tow truck. And regardless of how much it cost to fix my car, I knew there was money to cover it.

Rather than judge my tow truck driver for his life choices and poor money management skills, I realized that acting with kindness and compassion was a far better way to go. For both of us. And so I continued listening and asking questions. I offered advice when he asked and affirmation when he needed it.

It may sound strange, but I think my tow truck driver needed ME to accompany him across town as much as I needed HIM to drive me. Clearly, he needed someone to talk to. And while I had initially thought I had better things to do, I didn’t. This was where I needed to be. And that was okay.

When we finally got across town, I tipped my tow truck driver and told him I was sorry for his loss. I also told him things would get easier in time. He said he sure hope so and that he really appreciated me being willing to listen to him. I told him it was my pleasure. And I meant it!

We then parted ways, my tow truck driver heading back to Malibu to finish his shift before heading to Vegas to see his troubled daughter, and me to unpack from my week away and get the house ready for The Hubs and our big anniversary/birthday bash Saturday night.

The Hubs and I cut our anniversary luggage cake

On my birthday, I got some truly great gifts — gentle reminders that I live a beautiful life. Yes, my mom was in the hospital earlier this week, but she seems healthier and happier because of it. And yes, there were expenses associated with my car repairs, but nothing I can’t absorb. And for the moment, my loved ones are all safe, happy, and healthy. That is the greatest gift of all. And the icing on the cake is that I got to spend Saturday evening in the company of many of my dearest friends and family as we celebrated my one year wedding anniversary and both my and my husband’s birthday.

Today, I invite you to reflect on the many blessings and gifts in your own life. Why you may focus on the struggles, take time to celebrate your successes, triumphs, and blessings. I know they’re there. Seek them out and celebrate them. Post a comment here and let me know what your greatest blessings are. I’d love to hear them!
