Losing Cell Phone Worse Than Breaking Up

Here’s evidence of a civilization in decline – in a recent survey of mobile phone subscribers (and these days, who isn’t?), over half of the people surveyed claimed that losing their cell phone would be more devastating than going through breakup.

What’s the world coming to?

“In the survey conducted by Market Tools, users reported that losing their phone is far more painful than having a cavity filled or breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend; over half said that losing their phone would cause their social life to suffer.”

Truth be told, I actually understand where these participants are coming from.  The last time I left the house without my cell phone, I felt naked, vulnerable.  What if I got a flat tire?  What if I needed help?  Those freeway call boxes aren’t always convenient.  And pay phones are just, well, nasty.  Plus, who would I call?  Even with my knack for remembering phone numbers, I can’t remember the last time I actually dialed someone’s digits.  Mr. XY and I have been together for two years now and I barely know his phone number.

Our cell phones are more than just communication devices.  They’re our phone books, media centers, lifeline to our social circle, not to mention social calendar.  Plus, they tell the world who we are.  From my Sex and the City ring tone that plays when friends call to Are you gonna be my girl?  when Mr. XY calls to the BESTSELLER mantra on my cell phone display, my phone is all about me.  And I’m a late adopter!  All you Millennials out there are downloading songs, checking email, texting, and i-phoning your way around the Internet.

Come to think of it, maybe losing a cell phone wouldn’t be so bad.  I could upgrade to the Chocolate phone or get a Blackberry and become one with technology.  Hmm…

Bachelor Breakup

In case anyone cares, here’s a round up of recent celeb splits, courtesy of TMZ.com

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe are officially single again.  Their divorce became final this week. Gawd, these two have been single forever already, haven’t they?

Beyoncé Knowles’ younger sister Solange, who married at the tender age of 17, is now divorced to 21. Shocking!

Anybody watch The Bachelor?  Charlie O’Connell, who apparently was on two seasons ago, recently split from his Bachelor beauty Sarah Brice.  Hey, two years is a long time for a fake relationship…

And file this under super old news, but good news nonetheless.  Heroes star Hayden Panettiere finally wised up and dumped reality tv has been Stephen Colletti last month.  Hayden must have been too young to watch his doofus dating skills on the first season of Laguna Beach.
